eCommerce Merchandising Specialist, Retail

Our fashion client is currently seeking a freelance eCommerce Merchandising Specialist to join their team. This role is ideally hybrid onsite 2 days/week in the Boston area, however remote only candidates will also be considered based on experience.
This opportunity will be 40hrs/week for about 18 weeks (leave coverage) starting mid-late June. Please note, there could be occasional Sunday work and/or overtime tied to Monday product launches.
This role sits within the Ecommerce Operations team and is responsible for executing day-to-day online merchandising to support sales growth and a seamless customer experience. This person will manage product setup, site maintenance, and category optimization while partnering cross-functionally with merchandising, analytics, creative, and tech teams.
- Own product setup across all categories (apparel, footwear, accessories) for bimonthly launches
- Execute daily and weekly site maintenance to ensure all in-stock products are live, properly categorized, and available to purchase
- Manage product data including copy, pricing, and merchandising attributes
- Maintain category structure, metadata, and SEO copy across the site
- Track product launches and featured items through a master merchandising document
- Partner with Creative Merchandising to ensure featured products are in stock and accurately represented across site content
- Manage cross-sell and product recommendation modules based on merchandising strategy
- Collaborate with Ecommerce Analytics & Site Experience teams to monitor and adjust product sequencing (manual and algorithmic) to optimize conversion
- Support QA and site checks, including early morning checks as part of a shared team rotation
- Work cross-functionally with merchandising, IT, copywriters, and data operations to support site performance and execution
- 4+ years of ecommerce merchandising or site merchandising experience
- Hands-on experience with product setup, catalog management, and ecommerce platforms
- Strong understanding of ecommerce operations, including product data, taxonomy, and site experience
- Experience working with analytics tools (Adobe Analytics preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with merchandising tools or platforms (Smart Merchandiser a plus)
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working with data to inform merchandising decisions
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
