Highland is hiring a Civil Designer who understands why things are designed the way they are — not just how to draw them.

Highland is not a production shop. We're a risk management firm that offers Surveying and Civil Engineering services. Our plans are professional recommendations with long-term consequences, and we expect our designers to think the same way.

What you'll do:

Work directly with our PEs on private development projects — site layout, grading, drainage, storm, sanitary, water utilities, roadway and access improvements, erosion control, and construction sequencing.

You'll turn engineering intent into clean, constructible Civil 3D plan sets that explain themselves — so contractors don't have to guess and the field doesn't have to call.

What we're looking for:

→ Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency → 3+ years producing civil/site plan sets (private development preferred) → Ability to read engineer markups and understand the intent behind them → Comfortable asking good questions early instead of waiting for redlines → Pride in clean, defensible drawings

Degree preferred but not required — demonstrated competence matters more.

Not a CAD button-pusher seat. Not a survey tech position. Not cookie-cutter subdivision drafting. This is a design role, not a tracing role.

→ Utah-based, office with flexibility → Full-time or part-time → $28–$45/hr DOE (or salary equivalent based on experience)
