The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) is seeking qualified and passionate individuals to serve as Chaplain at each of the following Correctional Facility locations across the state:
Fountain and Holman combined
Easterling
Ventress
Bullock
Elmore
Tutwiler
Donaldson
St Clair
Salary: $45,556,80 - $64,152.00 | Full-Time | State Benefits, Insurance, & Retirement
Note: The starting salary is determined based on education, experience, or a combination of both.
This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing spiritual leadership, supporting rehabilitation efforts, and ensuring the protection of religious freedoms for individuals in our care. Responsibilities Include
- Coordinate and schedule religious services and activities for multiple faith groups, ensuring alignment with security, staffing, and space requirements
- Manage and process volunteer applications, including coordinating background checks, training, and approvals
- Ensure compliance with ADOC Administrative Regulations and applicable laws governing religious expression
- Provide counseling and support to inmates, families, and staff
- Conduct religious services and facilitate faith-based programming
- Review and approve religious materials for distribution in accordance with policy
- Collaborate with institutional leadership, classification, and reentry personnel to support facility operations and inmate programming
- Assist in maintaining order, safety, and effective communication within the institution
Applicants Must Meet The Requirements Below
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
OR
- Additional education and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
AND
- Ordination, Ecclesiastical Endorsement, or equivalent.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience in ministry, counseling, or religious program coordination
- Ability to teach, facilitate services, and speak publicly
- Ability to work with diverse populations and multiple faith groups
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate effectively within a structured and secure environment
- Knowledge of constitutional protections related to religious freedom
Work Environment
This position operates within a correctional facility and requires daily interaction with inmates, staff, volunteers, and external partners. The role supports both institutional operations and rehabilitative programming.
