Multi - Grade Classroom Teacher

Limestone Community School KS

Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Lawrence, KS
Contract type: Full time

Teaching at Limestone is not like teaching anywhere else. We want to be honest about that upfront — because the teachers who thrive here are looking for something specific, and we'd rather you know what you're getting into before you apply.

We are a project-based K–8 school rooted in of service, equity, and a joy for learning. Half of our families receive financial aid. We meet our students with high expectations and genuine care.

What's different here

You won't be alone in the room. This position operates with a co-teacher, keeping our ratio at roughly 1 educator for every 12 students. That means you have a true partner — someone to plan with, debrief with, and share the weight of the day with.

Learning here is hands-on and community-rooted. Our teachers design and facilitate multi-week projects connected to real problems in our community. Students have presented housing equity research to city officials, launched student-run markets, and investigated issues that matter to the people around them. Your job is to build the conditions for that kind of learning.

You'll teach across disciplines. This is a generalist role. We don't sort learning into neat subject boxes, and we don't sort teachers that way either. You'll weave together literacy, science, social studies, math, and the arts through the lens of whatever project your students are working on.

Who we're looking for

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Get genuinely excited when a student's question takes the lesson somewhere unexpected
  • Have experience with — or deep curiosity about — trauma-informed practice
  • Believe that equity isn't a value you hold, it's a practice you do every day
  • Want to collaborate with community organizations, not just hand in a lesson plan
  • Are comfortable not having all the answers, and modeling that for students
  • We don't require a background in project-based learning — but we do require a genuine willingness to grow into it.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners or students with diverse learning needs is a strong plus.

The honest part

We are a small school. Small schools mean wearing multiple hats, showing up fully, and caring about the whole community — not just your classroom. We're at our best when every person on our team is genuinely invested in the mission.

At Limestone, students know your name, families are partners, and the work is connected to something larger than any one classroom. We'd love to hear from you if that's what you're looking for.

Salary: $41,000
