Compensation: Approximately $40,000–$65,000 annualized equivalent,
depending on experience, scope, and work structure.
Schedule: Approximately 10–20 hours per week with flexible scheduling; occasional evening or
event participation as needed
Travel: Occasional travel for donor meetings, events, conferences, and site visits as needed
Reports to: Executive Director

Shumla’s mission is to preserve the oldest “books” in North America — the endangered ancient
murals of the Lower Pecos Canyonlands, Texas. From our headquarters in San Marcos, Texas,
and our field campus in Comstock, Texas, Shumla fulfills its mission through archaeological
documentation, scientific research, stewardship partnerships, and education for audiences of all
ages.
Shumla is a respected and growing nonprofit organization recognized internationally for its
scientific integrity, cultural sensitivity, and leadership in rock art preservation and research. As
the organization continues to grow and evolve, Shumla seeks a Development Manager to help
strengthen donor engagement, fundraising systems, and long-term sustainability.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Development Manager will support Shumla’s fundraising operations, donor
pipeline development, stewardship efforts, and development coordination during an important
period of organizational growth and transition.
This role is designed to expand fundraising capacity and strengthen donor engagement
systems while working collaboratively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development Committee.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, relationship-oriented, proactive, and comfortable supporting both strategic fundraising efforts and day-to-day development coordination.
Primary Responsibilities
Fundraising & Donor Development
● Support development and management of Shumla’s donor pipeline and prospect
tracking systems.
● Conduct donor and prospect research focused on individual, corporate, and foundation giving opportunities.
● Coordinate donor outreach, stewardship, and follow-up communications.
● Assist with donor meeting scheduling, briefing preparation, and relationship tracking.
● Support fundraising campaigns, donor cultivation activities, and development initiatives.
● Help strengthen mid-level and major donor engagement strategies.
Board & Development Committee Support
● Support fundraising coordination efforts involving Board members and the Development
Committee.
● Help organize prospect activity, donor tracking, and follow-up systems for board
fundraising efforts.
● Assist with preparation of development reports, fundraising updates, and donor
materials.
Grant & Proposal Support
● Coordinate proposal timelines, supporting materials, and reporting needs as requested.
● Support stewardship and communication with existing funders.
● Collaborate with leadership staff on grant tracking and development coordination.
Qualifications
● Experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, advancement, or development operations.
● Strong organizational and project management skills.
● Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
● Ability to manage multiple projects and follow-through independently.
● Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems preferred.
● Experience supporting major donor cultivation and stewardship preferred.
● Interest in archaeology, cultural heritage, conservation, education, or mission-driven nonprofit work preferred.
