The role
The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a technical expert in complex technical media networks and engineering. The role is offered initially until 31.03.27. The post holder will enable academic and industry led endeavours in the Sheds specialist spaces by delivering high-level professional expertise and carrying out sophisticated techniques.
Based close to the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, The Sheds is a unique facility for research, innovation and training in pioneering digital and creative technologies. Two primary research programmes are based there – BDFI and MyWorld. Other University teams, external industry and community partners regularly use The Sheds’ specialist and co-working spaces.
Working closely with the Sheds Head of Business Development and Operations and varied Sheds technical team of specialists, this role will be pivotal to the smooth running of the facility, and to ensuring an exceptional delivery of productions using the Sheds Studio, Cinema, Edit Suites, Vision and Audio galleries.
What will you be doing?
In This Role You Will
- Provide specialist technical operation and maintenance of the Sheds private media research network, the ST2110 and Dante networks for handling audio and visual data in the Production Studio and Smart Cinema, maintaining switches and providing technical expertise and advice to researchers and industrial collaborators making use of the network.
- Provide specialist technical operation and maintenance of production equipment interfacing with the specialist networks, such as cameras, audio devices, lighting.
- Provide leadership to other members of the Sheds technical teams in use of the media networks and specialist software solutions, e.g. Nevion for live production.
- Continually review and improve user interfaces across the Studio, Edit Suites and Smart Cinema to optimize for speed and ease of use.
