URBAN PLANNER / URBAN DESIGNER

Based in Oakland, Dyett & Bhatia is a leading firm of urban planners and designers, recognized for our work spearheading long-range planning projects for cities and public agencies that address the key challenges of our time, across California and beyond. Sustainable placemaking is at the core of what we do, and environmental justice, public health, and climate resilience are principal considerations in our work.

POSITION

We are looking to add a creative and passionate urban planner/designer to our team for ongoing assignments. Position will involve research and analysis; writing reports and plans; creating visual renderings/animations; developing design standards; stakeholder outreach and community engagement; and project coordination. Projects include general and specific plans; downtown/corridor/station area plans; zoning; and environmental review.

Ideal candidates will have exposure to California planning practice, geographic familiarity with the state, and in addition to urban design, background/interest in land use planning and/or environmental planning, sustainability and climate resiliency.

REQUIRED

Candidates must have:

• Exceptional urban design and visualization abilities
• Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
• Effective verbal communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively in teams
• Graduate degree in urban planning, urban design, or closely related field or commensurate experience
• Some prior planning-related work experience

Expertise in Adobe Illustrator is required and in InDesign and GIS desirable; however, this is not a graphic design or GIS position. Hiring level is open and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including experienced planners. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to travel occasionally.

This is a hybrid WFH/in-office position. Successful candidate will need to be based in or willing to relocate to the Bay Area and work part of the week in office. D&B’s office is in the vibrant Piedmont Avenue neighborhood in Oakland, with numerous cafés and restaurants within two blocks.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience. Expected starting salary + bonus range $80,000 to $105,000 (corresponding to graduate degree and one to four years’ experience).
