Pikes Peak State College is located at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. PPSC offers broad programs in transfer, occupational, and preparatory subjects emphasizing student and community needs. Colorado Springs is a great city to both work and live. This position is located at the Pikes Peak State College Centennial Campus.

NOTE: This full-time position will typically work Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the department. This position is required to travel between all PPSC campuses.

Description Of Job
Working Supervisor Duties
- Supervise the grounds and nursery department and equipment mechanic to ensure efficient operations and quality service delivery
- Perform grounds cleanup, mowing, weeding, and landscape maintenance activities to preserve and enhance the aesthetic appearance and physical condition of state facilities
- Operate and maintain irrigation systems, including scheduling, repairs, and seasonal adjustments to ensure proper functionality
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides in accordance with state regulations and environmental safety standards
- Maintain and repair walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure safe and accessible conditions
- Oversee facilities crews for snow and ice removal operations
- Operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy equipment and machinery, including mowers, tractors, loaders, and snow removal equipment
- Provide instruction and training to work unit and facilities personnel on the proper and safe use of light and heavy machinery and equipment
- Supervise the Equipment Mechanic and provide oversight of State Fleet Management operations
Work Order Management and Administration
- Assign tasks and duties to grounds and nursery personnel related to service requests, routine maintenance, improvement requests, internal work orders, and remodeling and construction projects
- Monitor work progress and workflow to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks
- Manage materials and product inventory, including ordering, tracking usage, and maintaining adequate supply levels
- Schedule duties and establish work standards to ensure consistent quality and efficiency
- Track and reconcile all procurement card transactions within the work unit
Personnel Management
- Supervise the Grounds & Nursery department, providing leadership and direction to staff
- Conduct annual and semi-annual performance evaluations for supervised personnel
- Manage and approve leave requests to ensure adequate staffing coverage
- Intervene and resolve department conflicts in a timely and professional manner
- Implement disciplinary or corrective actions in accordance with state policies and procedures
Compliance Management and Safety
- Perform periodic visual inspections of all storm drain outfalls to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
- Maintain records for EPA illicit discharge annual reporting requirements
- Acquire and maintain Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) reports related to storm sewer water management
- Ensure all work unit members follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Schedule and lead weekly safety meetings appropriate to the work unit
- Maintain attendance logs for all safety meetings and training sessions
Snow Removal/Equipment Coordinator Administration
- Coordinate snow removal operations and equipment logistics to ensure timely response to weather events
- Schedule crews and dispatch snow removal equipment based on weather conditions and operational needs
- Track maintenance and repairs for all snow removal equipment to ensure operational readiness
- Monitor weather conditions and forecasts to anticipate and prepare for snow and ice events
- Maintain operational records for snow removal services to document response times, equipment usage, and service delivery
- Ensure timely, safe, and efficient snow and ice management services across all facilities

Minimum Qualifications
Experience Only
Three (3) years of grounds care and maintenance experience appropriate to the job assignment listed above, including at least one (1) year of experience serving in a work leader or supervisory capacity, which may include assigning tasks, providing guidance or training to staff, or overseeing workflow. Must be a team player and able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written. Must have the ability to multitask and be a self starter. Substitutions: None
Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license to independently drive company vehicles and equipment around the campus, pick up parts, etc. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. Position is required to be available as early as early as necessary to perform snow removal and other duties during adverse weather conditions. Position will be required to work additional hours as needed during times of unusual storm occurrences or storm damage. An essential function of this position requires exertion in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects? (i.e. lifting equipment, pushing grounds equipment, removing snow, etc.). It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communication and be able to read and comprehend written directions on labels, machinery and in manuals, etc. Also, must be able to interpret written directives, policies, guidelines and memos.
Appeal Rights
