Mechanical Testing Engineer
Novineer
ABOUT NOVINEER
Novineer develops AI-powered engineering software for additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, and toolpath-aware simulation. We validate our software by testing real printed parts and comparing measured behavior with simulation predictions.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a hands-on engineer to plan, instrument, run, and analyze mechanical tests on polymer and composite additively manufactured parts. This role will support tensile, compression, shear, bending, and application-specific test setups using strain gauges, extensometers, digital image correlation (DIC), and load-frame data.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and run ASTM-style mechanical tests: tensile, compression, shear, bending, and part-level validation.
• Prepare specimens; bond strain gauges; manage wiring; configure bridge circuits; perform shunt calibration.
• Set up extensometers and DIC systems; compare full-field, local, and extensometer strain measurements.
• Operate MTS or equivalent load frames and DAQ systems while ensuring alignment, calibration, and repeatability.
• Analyze load, displacement, strain, stiffness, modulus, Poisson’s ratio, failure load, failure strain, and failure mode/location.
• Compare experimental results with simulation predictions and diagnose sources of mismatch.
• Write clear procedures, calibration records, test reports, data summaries, and engineering recommendations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical testing and experimental data analysis.
• Experience with at least three: strain gauges, extensometers, DIC, load frames, DAQ, MTS/TestSuite, or LabVIEW.
• Strong understanding of stress/strain, modulus, Poisson’s ratio, shear, anisotropy, and failure analysis.
• Ability to process test data in Excel, Python, or similar tools.
• Careful attention to calibration, gauge bonding, wiring, alignment, uncertainty, repeatability, and documentation.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• ASTM D638, D695, D7078, or similar mechanical testing standards.
• 3D-printed polymers, composites, continuous-fiber materials, or anisotropic materials.
• DIC software such as Ncorr, VIC-2D, GOM Correlate, or equivalent.
• Strain-gauge troubleshooting, FEA validation, or material-model calibration.
How to Apply: Send your resume and a brief note describing your experience with mechanical testing, strain measurement, DIC, extensometers, or experimental validation to ***email_hidden***
