About Eltec

For over 50 years, Eltec Instruments has been a trusted U.S. manufacturer of instrumentation-grade pyroelectric infrared detectors. Our detectors convert extremely small infrared signals into clean electrical outputs used in flame detection systems, gas analyzers, medical instruments, railroad safety systems, and defense sensing platforms.

At Eltec, every design decision matters — from FET selection and low-noise circuit design to PCB layout, optical filter selection, and detector packaging. If analog circuits, precision measurement, and sensor signal chains sound interesting to you, this is a role worth considering.

About the Role

We are in the middle of an active product development program and are expanding our pyroelectric detector platform into a new digital product family.

The goal is to integrate Eltec’s instrumentation-grade lithium tantalate detector technology with analog front-end circuitry, digital signal processing, and a standard I²C interface so our detectors can connect more easily to modern embedded systems.

This work spans analog front-end design, detector characterization, PCB layout for constrained form factors, thermal validation inside sealed metal packages, and digital interface bring-up.

We are hiring for multiple levels — from summer interns to entry-level or experienced electrical engineers.

What You’ll Work On

  • Design, build, and test analog front-end circuits for pyroelectric infrared detectors
  • Set up measurement rigs and characterize detector performance, including responsivity, noise spectral density, NEP, and D*
  • Contribute to PCB schematic capture and layout for compact mixed-signal detector electronics
  • Configure and bring up digital interface circuitry, including I²C-based ADCs and embedded signal acquisition
  • Write Python scripts to automate register configuration, data collection, and signal analysis
  • Troubleshoot analog and mixed-signal circuits at the board level
  • Document findings in clear engineering reports and maintain design records

Full-time engineers will take on increasing ownership over characterization plans, PCB revision cycles, test methods, and product-level design decisions.

Internship Track — Summer, Paid

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Currently pursuing a B.S. in Electrical Engineering; rising junior or senior preferred
  • Coursework in analog circuits, signals and systems, electronics lab, or embedded systems
  • Comfortable using basic lab instrumentation: oscilloscope, DMM, function generator, and power supply
  • Some exposure to a schematic or PCB design tool
  • Experience with at least one technical computing or scripting tool such as Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred; strong hands-on projects will be considered alongside GPA

Full-Time Track — Experienced

Ideal candidates will have:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Hands-on background in analog circuit design, sensor characterization, embedded systems, or precision measurement
  • Working proficiency with PCB design tools; Altium experience is preferred
  • Ability to own a measurement task end-to-end: setup, data collection, analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation
  • Experience with low-noise design, mixed-signal circuits, precision instrumentation, or sensor interfaces is a strong plus

Nice to Have — Both Tracks

  • Experience with transimpedance amplifiers, charge amplifiers, lock-in detection, or chopped/pulsed signal conditioning
  • Familiarity with standard digital communication protocols such as I²C
  • Exposure to infrared sensing, photonics, optics, or detector physics
  • Experience debugging real hardware

Why Eltec

  • Work on mission-critical technology
  • Learn real-world analog and sensor engineering challenges
  • Learn from engineers with decades of experience in detector design, precision measurement, and infrared sensing
  • Join a small team where your contributions are visible, your questions get answered quickly, and your work can make it into a real product
  • Daytona Beach, FL — competitive compensation, reasonable cost of living, and the Atlantic Ocean nearby
