JCDP is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to fill the role of part-time Intern. The Intern will play a pivotal role in increasing the party’s visibility and positive image in our community as well as supporting the Executive Director and the Volunteer Coordinator with various tasks, reporting to the Executive Director and the Chair. This is a salaried, seasonal, part-time position based in Johnson County, Kansas, with occasional travel within the county and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

Finance Assistant

Entering data, tracking expenses, assisting Executive Director with call time and donor management.

Voter Outreach Assistant

Work with Volunteer Coordinator on GOTV efforts, including phone banking, texting outreach and Surge Team canvassing efforts.

Community Outreach

Developing new strategies to increase young voter turnout, monitoring the protest movement, identifying events where the JCDP should have a presence, implementing crowd canvassing for volunteer recruitment purposes, organizing volunteers for community events (Old Settlers, JoCo Fair, parades), and working with Volunteer Coordinator to manage existing and start new social media accounts for the JCDP.

Volunteer Engagement

In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, organize and conduct volunteer training sessions to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to our party's activities. Be present in our Volunteer Community, attending monthly Senate District Meetings and social events as available.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a commitment to the Democratic Party’s values, principles, and objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must have a positive, outgoing personality focused on community service.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, politically charged environment.
  • Proficiency in using Google Workspace.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed, especially during peak campaign seasons.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field.
  • Prior experience using Votebuilder/VAN.

Compensation and Timeline

  • This seasonal position will last approximately 8 months, from June 1st, 2026 through November 6, 2026.
  • This position will require approximately 20 hours of work per week and will pay between $1,500 and $2,000 per month, to be determined during the interview process.
