QA Lead

Reports To: Director of Product/Chief Technology Officer

Location: Grand Junction, CO (HQ)

Sky Peak Technologies is seeking a detail-oriented and energetic QA Lead to ensure the quality and reliability of our software products. This role focuses on testing, debugging, and validating products across both manual and automated processes, while ensuring that user experience remains central to product delivery.

The QA Lead thrives at asking the right questions to uncover gaps and rallying others to prioritize quality. Supported by competencies in follow-through, this role ensures that quality assurance is not only a checkpoint but a driver of continuous improvement across product teams.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Testing

• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, including functional, regression, and performance scenarios.
• Impeccable documentation on QA processes to enable repeatability.
• Identify, document, and report defects with precision, ensuring clear communication with developers.
• Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks to improve QA efficiency.
• Ensure products meet usability and user experience standards in addition to functionality.

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner closely with developers, designers, and the Director of Product to refine requirements and test coverage.
• Galvanize teams around quality, ensuring testing insights are heard and acted upon.
• Participate in code reviews and provide quality feedback on software design.
• Ensure technical debt, quality concerns, and implementation risks are visible.

Process Improvement

• Establish quality standards across the SDLC.
• Ensure testing strategies support business objectives.
• Ask critical Wonder-driven questions that probe assumptions about product readiness.
• Stay current with QA methodologies and industry best practices to refine testing strategies.
• Track, analyze, and report QA metrics to improve transparency and accountability.

Execution & Support

• Work with the Director of Product to ensure quality goals align with release timelines.
• Provide hands-on support in sprint planning and product deployment cycles.
• Step in across teams to ensure QA tasks are not left incomplete, closing gaps where needed.
• Mentor QA personnel and promote quality ownership throughout engineering.
• Monitor release readiness and technical risk.

Technical Systems Knowledge

• Strong understanding of software architecture and system design.
• Ability to read and interpret application code and technical documentation.
• Experience troubleshooting distributed systems, APIs, cloud platforms, and mobile applications.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps workflows, and software deployment practices.

Qualifications

• Experience as a QA Lead or similar role in software or SaaS environments.
• Proficiency in manual and automated testing methods and tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with ability to engage both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Adaptability in fast-paced startup environments with shifting priorities.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 (compensation based on skills and experience)
