Camp Six Acres (operating under Temple Shalom - William & Charlotte Bloomberg Jewish Community Center) in Medford, MA seeks a skilled, compassionate, and highly organized person to serve as the Health Care Supervisor for our recreational summer program. This role is responsible for protecting the health and safety of campers and staff, delivering health care, overseeing medication administration, and supporting compliance with Massachusetts recreational camp health regulations.

The Health Care Supervisor is a key member of the camp leadership team and serves as the primary health authority on site during program operations. This position combines direct care, prevention, communication, documentation, and operational readiness to maintain the safe, supportive environment where every camper can thrive in our recreation, education, and well-being programs.

$45-50/hour

Camp Dates: Mon-Fri, June 29th-August 21st (We will consider applicants who are available for only part of the summer, but prefer someone who can work all summer.)

Essential Responsibilities

Health Care Delivery and Clinical Judgment

  • Provide direct care to campers and staff, including first aid, assessment of illness and injury, triage, and treatment within scope of training
  • Respond to routine and emergency medical situations, coordinating with families, emergency responders, and camp leadership as needed
  • Make sound decisions consistent with professional standards and camp policies under guidance of Health Care Consultant
  • Develop individualized care plans for campers with health needs, ensuring full participation in camp activities

Medication Management (Under Health Care Consultant Supervision)

  • Receive, review, organize, secure, and administer camper medications following Massachusetts DPH standards and the "5 Rights" protocol.
  • Maintain secure medication storage and accurate administration records
  • Monitor and document medication effects and potential side effects
  • Report immediately to Health Care Consultant and families any medication errors, refusals, or adverse reactions
  • Prepare training for designated staff on approved procedures.

Health Records, Licensing, and Compliance

  • Review camper health records ensuring compliance with Massachusetts camp licensing requirements
  • Verify required forms such as medication authorizations are complete and current
  • Maintain accurate, confidential health documentation including visit logs, treatment records, and incident reports
  • Follow strict confidentiality protocols, sharing information only as directed by Health Care Consultant
  • Report health issues and incidents in accordance with camp policy and regulatory requirements

Prevention, Training, and Communication

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with families regarding health concerns, maintaining Camp Six Acres' supportive community approach.
  • Collaborate with directors, counselors, and staff to support campers' health needs while maintaining confidentiality
  • Serve as resource to staff on health, safety, emergency response, and mandated reporting responsibilities
  • Participate in preseason staff training on medication procedures, emergency response, and camper health needs

Health Office and Program Support

  • Maintain clean, organized, well-stocked health center
  • Inventory and replenish medical supplies, first aid kits, and emergency medications
  • Support development of health forms and systems that enhance safe program delivery
  • Participate in camp community life, contributing to our friendly, supportive atmosphere where campers feel comfortable and safe

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Must complete Massachusetts DPH-required Health Care Supervisor training in medication administration and pass competency test
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with children, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies
  • Familiarity with camp health records and procedures

Preferred

  • Current Massachusetts licensure as Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Experience in pediatric, school, camp, or community health settings
  • Prior experience in Massachusetts recreational camp setting
