Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing unskilled manual work; performs related duties as required.

Examples Of Work

  • Crates and uncrates furniture.
  • Moves school furniture from school to shop and returns refinished or repaired furniture to schools.
  • Receives and stocks furniture, textbooks, and supplies in warehouse; locates and prepares items for delivery to District locations.
  • Crates and uncrates furniture; disassembles and assembles furniture to be repaired or replaced.
  • Moves school furniture from school to shop and returns refinished or repaired furniture to schools.
  • Lifts heavy objects; loads and unloads trucks with supplies, materials, or tools.
  • Drives a truck or van to make deliveries.
  • Stocks perishable items in walk-in refrigerators or freezers.
  • Identifies and counts supplies, materials, or tools in storage areas for inventory control purposes.
  • Cleans storage areas to maintain order and safety.
  • Assists in the repair, patching, and sealing of blacktop parking, playground, and driveway areas.
  • Operates forklift and/or hand truck to move supplies from one location to another.
  • Digs holes and trenches at job site for installation of equipment.
  • Moves equipment and supplies to assist in set-up of Food Service Production Center production line.
  • Obtains specific tools, supplies, and equipment from truck as requested by trades personnel at job site.
  • Performs a variety of manual work in connection with the maintenance and operation of school buildings.

Food Service Departmental Tasks

  • Laborers will report to the FSPC following the provided calendar.
  • If you are unable to report you must notify the manager on duty.
  • Report time is 6:00AM - 1:00PM unless it is determined by manager on duty that the work for the day is completed.
  • Empty Production area trash as needed throughout the shift.
  • Empty receiving and shipping bay trash daily.
  • Laborers will be responsible for pulling and putting away production products daily, following the First-In, First-Out method (oldest product used first).
  • Laborers will be responsible for receiving and ensuring accuracy of FSPC deliveries.
  • Maintain (sweep, keep clean) and organize warehouse and production floor daily.
  • Additional cleaning projects may be assigned as needed.

School year position: The laborers position is 7 hours per day from mid-August to the end of May/beginning of June. The exact dates will vary to correspond with opening and closing of schools.

Summer Job Opportunity: The Food Service Department is a vendor for Columbus Parks and Recreation during the summer. This is an opportunity to work during the summer. All time worked is on as needed basis, 7 hours per day is not guaranteed.

Required Training Provided: Food Service and Forklift Training

  • Dress Code: Full length pants made of cotton (jeans, khakis, dickies, etc… are acceptable. All clothing must be free of graphic designs except for small logo (such as Nike swoosh, etc…).

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. (Must attach documentation)
