The Monitor Technician will be responsible for continuous observation of cardiac monitoring surveillance for a designated area including identifying, interpreting, documenting, and reporting cardiac rhythms. You will also serve as a unit secretary and patient care technician as needed.

  • You will be responsible for the continuous observation of patients' cardiac rhythm as rhythms are being transmitted to the central monitoring station
  • Log initial rhythm, rate, and date on every admission. Keep a running log of arrhythmias and changes in rhythms. Log when other staff is notified of issues or concerns.
  • Select appropriate rhythm strips to be documented, interpreted and reviewed every 12 hours and as needed by the nurse in charge of patient. Points out rhythm changes and other items that need to be reviewed. Distributes rhythm strips to appropriate nursing personnel each shift.
  • Report patients' cardiac rhythm and events to the nurse caring for the patient including comparing current with previous monitoring reports for changes.
  • You will verify the patients that are on telemetry and those who should be taken off the monitor after the 72 hour review is complete.
  • Successfully demonstrate annual rhythm strip competency.
  • Recognize and understand the significance of red and yellow alarms and notify the appropriate nursing personnel of such alarms.
Terre Haute Regional Hospital is a 278-bed community based medical center serving the areas of Vigo, Sullivan, Knox, Greene, Clay, Owen, Putnam, Parke, Vermillion and Fountain counties in Indiana and Crawford, Clark and Edgar counties in Illinois.   • Successful completion of basic arrhythmia course (required)

  • Previous experience or education of arrhythmia interpretation (preferred)
  • Prior hospital experience (preferred)

  • American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Healthcare Provider upon hire (required)
  • Must pass the designated Cardiac Rhythm Analysis Technician certification exam within eighteen (18) months of employment (required)
